Exploding. My last night in Prague, 9/20/10

(Wednesday 22 September 2010) by Joanne Chang
Dinner was a Cuban restaurant, La Bodeguitas de Medio, that claims fame to having invented the mojito and getting Earnest Hemingway hooked on them. I sat at the bar and mistakenly ordered a giant whole lobster that must have weighed 3 lbs. I don't think I've ever seen a lobster this big, and the Chang household has seen many a giant lobster feast. The waiter was nice and took it back no problem, he probably realized he should have double checked when I asked for a bowl of soup, a large salad and a 3 lb lobster sitting alone at the bar. You'd need a table for six to dissect that thing.

... Before dinner I walked along the river and the lighting was gorgeous. Prague by day was mostly cloudy and hazy, so I was excited to get some photos with the water reflecting bridge lights like candles, and Prague castle in the distance, stoic and mysterious. I followed the sound of a guy singing Pink Floyd and playing the guitar down to a riverside cafe and had a glass of wine on the dock. He played 'Wish You Were Here' and at that moment I realized where I was. I was in Prague, alone, unencumbered, free. Wild. Ridiculous. For all the things that had to happen for me to get here, I am grateful. It was a long way down, an incredible journey back up, and I'm higher than I've ever been. It's all happening and I can feel it, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I'm on the exploration of a lifetime, discovering new things about myself, about the world, every day. I'm getting ready to explode. Are you ready for this?
